I feel I am in a mom rut. Today is Groundhog Day and I feel exactly like Bill Murray. Same day, same stuff to do, same interactions, same people. It can get frustrating and lonesome being a stay at home mom. I try to get out of the house but between trying to get my 3 year old to put on pants, juggle around my 11 month old’s multiple naps and the car seat shuffle, I usually just resort back to the couch and give up.

What’s a mom supposed to do?
Besides getting a job, I know husband, we have no money and you want extra money to buy stuff… (eye roll🙄) I usually have to throw myself into a creative project to dig myself out of this rut.
So, I’m making a list in my bullet journal of things that can help. I’m not sure which project I want to start yet but am having fun looking thru Pinterest for ideas.

Here is what I usually do to shake it off:

Step 1: Admit you have a problem. This is hard for those type A people who are so good at everything and have everything they need in a plan. But, I am not one of those people. I am an earth sign and we are good at completing tasks given but not one to write a novel for no reason. So, let’s stand up lazy people of type B qualities and say out loud, “I am stuck emotionally and need help.”

Good job, let’s move on.

Step 2: Get dressed. I’m all about pajamas, but pjs only continue the bad feelings. You have to change your clothes to change your life. Dress for the job you want, not the job you have. So I put on my finest yoga pants and a clean tank top. I’m sure some of you wear real pants like jeans or something, but not me. My jeans don’t fit anymore so I don’t fight it. And it doesn’t matter what you wear, as long as you wear something other than jammies.

Step 3: Sweep your porch. Literally, sweep it. Get a broom and go to town. I learned this from reading about fung shei, it’s a good tip and gets you outside for a minute. It’s supposed to clear the energy to allow good energy to come in. Good energy doesn’t want to walk through leaves and dirt to get inside your house.

Step 4: Do something you like. Even if it’s just a moment, take a second to make yourself feel good. I like to sneak a mouthful of chocolate chips and almonds without sharing. I might also take a second to go outside and sit in the sun. Usually this step involves some alone for me. And that’s ok. If holding babies makes you happy then get your butt over to my house and hold mine for me. If listening to a certain song gets you in a good mood, then turn it up and rock out.

Did that turn your mood around? I hope so. If not, you might need some more chocolate and a baby sitter for the day.
